After six years working as a technical leader specializing in the analysis of failure rates in equipment Tim Roadnight was laid off. While deciding his next step in life he observed his newly purchased home’s pool being serviced. Over the coming weeks while conversing with the pool cleaner and developing his knowledge of pool chemicals and the equipment he developed a stream-lined optimum routine for cleaning a pool. He started a business ‘Pool Knights’ in late 2015.   Six years later and Tim and his wife who joined the company in a back office supporting role sold to a Venture Capitalist fund. It offered them an opportunity to earning out the blood, sweat and tears from building from the ground up. It was bittersweet. They’d developed a business loved by their friends and neighbors; a piece of community known by most.   Over the course of the six years of ownership Tim and Dana pulled $4M out of the business. When it sold it was turning over $2M/year at a 20% profit margin. Like many small businesses owner managed it became a lifestyle choice covering many expenses.   During the six years of ownership it was recognized that Tim and Dana’s leadership of the company had resulted in unprecedented growth. Jandy, Pentair and Hayward sponsored them in various forms and were known by many from the ground up at each manufacturing company as well as the distributor majors.   The path to success wasn’t easy, there were many trials and tribulations to overcome on the way. Many of those hurdles resulted in creating a solution with the implementation of a clear system and action plan.
